LEARNING IS NOT LINEAR

Every Child Is Unique and a One Size Fits All Process No Longer Works

While most schools follow an outdated, assembly-line approach, Emergent is different. We embrace every child’s uniqueness and build a curriculum and process that unlocks their full potential. Students master concepts and skills before going onto other learning. How do you know they mastered it? You give them tests. If they do not reach mastery, then they go back and study and take the test again until they pass it.

PERSONALIZED LEARNING PLANS

PERSONALIZED LEARNING PLANS

Personalized learning plans are created with the uniqueness of each child in mind and within the context of creating connections to their personal lives. By leveraging blended solutions and project-based learning opportunities, we create an approach that is distinct for each student. We believe that students feel empowered to achieve academic and personal goals when they have the opportunity to take ownership of their learning plan.

EARNED INDEPENDENCE

EARNED INDEPENDENCE

Independence is the secret ingredient to move children from passive receivers of information to lifelong learners. Independence is something that is taught through the curriculum and also earned. The end result is excitement to learn and a high level of internal motivation. A great example is homework. While not required, our kids are so excited to hit their goals they often choose to continue learning at home.

MASTERY-BASED, BLENDED LEARNING

MASTERY-BASED, BLENDED LEARNING

In traditional schools, time is constant, and learning is variable. With a mastery-based approach, learning is constant, and time is variable. Students master concepts and skills before moving on to additional concepts. Coupled with blended learning, an approach combines rich online learning with educator led workshops, students naturally accelerate through topics they understand or slow down on areas where they need more time and help. At every step their mastery is assessed, tracked and responded to appropriately.

LEARNING GUIDES

LEARNING GUIDES

Guides are subject-matter-experts that provide students with real-time academic support when they are stuck in a core subject area. They also provide advice and strategies for finishing assignments, monitor progress over time, and support the creation of projects connected to each student's learning plan. Guides also support collaborative peer learning, goal setting, and the development of skills such as self-advocacy.

The Emergent Academy Culture Creates a Unique Environment to Learn

Not only does it accelerate the academic success, it fuels a level of personal development critical for success in life.

Transparency: We believe in openness, sharing our progress, success and failures with one another.
Respect: We give and expect respect at all times. Respect does not change because of an age or grade, it is shared equally.
Accountability: A personal choice to demonstrate the ownership necessary for achieving desired results—to See It, Own It, Solve It, and Do It
Community: We celebrate and embrace the differences in our school community. We are always here to support and raise up our peers.
Expectations: We believe everyone can succeed and achieve the goals they set. We expect a lot of ourselves and one another.
